How do you defy destiny?
Helen Hamilton has spent her entire sixteen years trying to hide how different she is—no easy task on an island as small and sheltered as Nantucket. And it's getting harder. Nightmares of a desperate desert journey have Helen waking parched, only to find her sheets damaged by dirt and dust. At school she's haunted by hallucinations of three women weeping tears of blood . . . and when Helen first crosses paths with Lucas Delos, she has no way of knowing they're destined to play the leading roles in a tragedy the Fates insist on repeating throughout history.
As Helen unlocks the secrets of her ancestry, she realizes that some myths are more than just legend. But even demigod powers might not be enough to defy the forces that are both drawing her and Lucas together—and trying to tear them apart.
Starcrossed was an absolute joy to read. I haven't read a good Greek
mythological book in such a long time, it was rather refreshing especially with
every YA book coming out now is somewhat dystopian.
Helen is very much aware of the fact that she is a little
different, but she shrugs it off and lives her life under the radar. That soon
changes when she starts having strange nightmares about walking in a desert
that seems never ending. She wakes up to find her sheets covered in mud and
dirt. Adding to the strange, she now
sees three weeping women crying tears of blood. Then all hell breaks loose when Helen sees
Lucas for the first time. The both have this sudden urge to kill one another
than again they feel something else as well. History has a way of repeating
itself. Will Helen overcome it or do the
fates have something else planned?
Starcrossed has been on my TBR since it came out, but you know
how that TBR pile gets. It's never ending! I honestly didn't expect to laugh so
much. Yes, it was action packed and the romance was on point, but I have to say
those few moments when Helen interacted with her dad or her best friend, I
found myself laughing out loud. I love that so many of the secondary characters
stood out.
Starcrossed is a unique,
action packed story with an enchanting romance plot that also has a hint of
mystery. Although it is almost 500 pages
long, I read it in two days! It would've been one if it wasn't for the fact
that I had to work. I highly recommend picking this book up if you haven't
already.
