For Scarlet, raising her two daughters alone makes fighting for tomorrow an everyday battle. Nathan has a wife, but can’t remember what it’s like to be in love; only his young daughter Zoe makes coming home worthwhile. Miranda’s biggest concern is whether her new VW Bug is big enough to carry her sister and their boyfriends on a weekend escape from college finals.
When reports of a widespread, deadly “outbreak” begin to surface, these ordinary people face extraordinary circumstances and suddenly their fates are intertwined. Recognizing they can’t outrun the danger, Scarlet, Nathan, and Miranda desperately seek shelter at the same secluded ranch, Red Hill. Emotions run high while old and new relationships are tested in the face of a terrifying enemy—an enemy who no longer remembers what it’s like to be human.
Set against the backdrop of a brilliantly realized apocalyptic world, love somehow finds a way to survive. But what happens when the one you’d die for becomes the one who could destroy you?
Red Hill grabs you from page one and doesn’t let go until its stunning conclusion. This is #1 New York Times bestselling author Jamie McGuire at her unforgettable best.
(5+++++)

I want to first say that I am not a big fan of zombies, but when I heard that Jamie was coming out with a book about them, I had to get my hands on it ASAP.  Anything that Jamie creates is just brilliant.  Her style of writing is just amazing and I was hooked from the very first page and I couldn’t put the book down.  Yes, it’s about zombies and it’s gory, but there is so much more to it.  It was a real eye opener for me.  No, I don’t believe that zombies are going to take over, but it made me think about the small things we take for granted.  Jamie managed to create this world that made me feel like I was watching it on “the big screen.”  I could really see this story getting picked up and transformed into a major box office hit.  Yes, it’s that good!

Red Hill is written in three POVs and believe me when I say, it was not confusing at all.  I feel like it was necessary to make the story come to life, and it worked out perfectly.

It’s Friday morning and Scarlett is on her way to drop off her two daughters, Jenna and Hale at school.  It is her ex-husband’s weekend with the girls and she isn’t too happy about it.  Scarlett is an X-ray technician and is working at her local hospital.  Little does she know that all hell is going to break loose that day, literally.  One by one, people start coming in sick with strange symptoms and all end up the same, dead.  That’s when more people start rushing in with bite marks and missing limbs.  Scarlett starts to panic when she sees the news on TV saying that there is some disease spreading around that is making people eat one another.  Eager to get to her girls, Scarlett rushes out of the hospital and that is when she sees the severity of what is really going on.

Then we meet Nathan.  Nathan is an amazing man, father and husband.  It’s a shame that his wife doesn’t appreciate him.  Nathan sees how bad things are and takes off to his sister and brother-in-law’s house with Zoe, his daughter, since Skeeter is a gun enthusiast, he knows he will be fully stocked with plenty of guns and ammo.

Miranda and Ashley are sisters and their father owns a house out in the middle of no-where called Red Hill.  They are also on the run with their boyfriends, Bryce and Cooper. I would be scared too if I was stuck in a VW bug with 3 other people and the only thing between me and flesh eating killers.

I finished reading Red Hill 5 days ago and I still can’t get it out of my head. My heart absolutely tore apart during some scenes in this book.  For one, I am very emotional and when a book like this comes around and has me sobbing like a baby, it's bound to leave a mark on me.  I mean that in a good way.  Not many books I can say have done that to me.   My favorite character is Scarlett.  I haven’t read of a strong female character like that in a long time.  She is determined to stay focused and will not let anyone or anything get in her way.
For all of you zombie lovers, Red Hill is a must read.  For all of you book lovers, Red Hill is for you too!  Red Hill is definitely one of my favorite top 3 reads this year.  So make sure you get your copy NOW!
