From New York Times bestselling author Melissa de la Cruz and Michael Johnston comes this remarkable first book in a spellbinding new series about the dawn of a new kind of magic.
Welcome to New Vegas, a city once covered in bling, now blanketed in ice. Like much of the destroyed planet, the place knows only one temperature—freezing. But some things never change. The diamond in the ice desert is still a 24-hour hedonistic playground and nothing keeps the crowds away from the casino floors, never mind the rumors about sinister sorcery in its shadows.
At the heart of this city is Natasha Kestal, a young blackjack dealer looking for a way out. Like many, she's heard of a mythical land simply called “the Blue.” They say it’s a paradise, where the sun still shines and the waters are turquoise. More importantly, it’s a place where Nat won’t be persecuted, even if her darkest secret comes to light.
But passage to the Blue is treacherous, if not impossible, and her only shot is to bet on a ragtag crew of mercenaries led by a cocky runner named Ryan Wesson to take her there. Danger and deceit await on every corner, even as Nat and Wes find themselves inexorably drawn to each other. But can true love survive the lies? Fiery hearts collide in this fantastic tale of the evil men do and the awesome power within us all.
Frozen is the first book I have read by Melissa De La Cruz and Michael Johnston.  Let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The cover is absolutely gorgeous!   Thanks to Ana for getting me this amazing book from BEA. Frozen is just an outstanding story and Melissa and Michael did an amazing job writing it. The cover alone just pulls you in and makes you pop the book open and dive right in.  I promise you, Frozen will not disappoint.
Nat has a new identity and a new job at the New Vegas casino. Where people gamble everything they have.  Bombs drop left and right and people react like it’s just another day. Nat is listening to this voice in her head that is telling her that she must getaway and run. Wes is a mercenary and he and his team are good at what they do. Wes always took the jobs no matter how risky it was because in the end, it meant having something to eat for the day. The Blue is something that everyone knows and dreams about.  It is a paradise where people don’t suffer or die of starvation. Wes and his team have always taken people in search for The Blue. Then one day, they realize that Nat holds something that will change their lives.
At first we see Nat as this scared girl that is not accepted in this world. Throughout the book we see her character change and become stronger. Wes is a very powerful character with ton of responsibilities; he truly is a natural leader. I found myself enjoying reading from his POV. The world building in Frozen is magnificent. The authors have a way of writing that makes you feel like you are part of this breathtaking world.

Therefore, my fellow readers, Frozen is a book that has to be on our bookshelf for sure! It is an outstanding story with amazing characters and beautifully written. I highly recommend adding Frozen to your TBR list.

  2. I've read some mixed reviews, and haven't plucked up the courage to read it yet, probably will eventually because it does sound really good, and pretty cover alert. :) Glad you enjoyed it though, great review! :)
