There’s nothing real about reality TV.
Seventeen-year-old Bonnie™ Baker has grown up on TV—she and her twelve siblings are the stars of one-time hit reality show Baker’s Dozen. Since the show’s cancellation and the scandal surrounding it, Bonnie™ has tried to live a normal life, under the radar and out of the spotlight. But it’s about to fall apart…because Baker’s Dozen is going back on the air. Bonnie™’s mom and the show’s producers won’t let her quit and soon the life she has so carefully built for herself, with real friends (and maybe even a real boyfriend), is in danger of being destroyed by the show. Bonnie™ needs to do something drastic if her life is ever going to be her own—even if it means being more exposed than ever before.
First off I must say thank you to Fierce Reads for giving me the chance to read Something Real before hand. It's always a treat when you get home to find a book waiting for you.

Seventeen year old Bonnie Baker basically grew up on TV. That's all in the past though, she isn't Bonnie anymore, she goes by Chloe now. Chloe and her family have been laying low ever since the show went off air. That can be a little tricky when you're one of thirteen kids! They have all made new friends and are continuing with their everyday life. That is until their mother drops one heck of a bomb on them-- The show is going back on air!

I'm obsessed with Chloe and Benny's relationship. Their banter and how well they get along just makes me love them. I long for a relationship like that with one of my brothers. So I'm not sure where I stand with Chloe. Here's my problem with her, more than half the time she's complaining about not wanting to be on TV anymore or getting frustrated about things, yet she never acts on them. It's heartbreaking to watch everything she goes through. I can't even comprehend what it would be like to deal with something like this in real life. Demetrios did an incredible job of capturing the essence the entire book.

Something Real is a first-hand experience into the world we are all guilty of enjoying. It's an outstanding book with equally amazing characters.

  1. This sounds like an interesting read. I have wondered in the past what it would be like to be a kid on one of those reality tv shows.
