"You have to teach your heart and mind how to sing together…then you'll hear the sound of your soul."Mia Kelly thinks she has it all figured out. She's an Ivy League graduate, a classically trained pianist, and the beloved daughter of a sensible mother and offbeat father. Yet Mia has been stalling since graduation, torn between putting her business degree to use and exploring music, her true love. When her father unexpectedly dies, she decides to pick up the threads of his life while she figures out her own. Uprooting herself from Ann Arbor to New York City, Mia takes over her father's cafĂ©, a treasured neighborhood institution that plays host to undiscovered musicians and artists. She's denied herself the thrilling and unpredictable life of a musician, but a chance encounter with Will, a sweet, gorgeous, and charming guitarist, offers her a glimpse of what could be. When Will becomes her friend and then her roommate, she does everything in her power to suppress her passions-for him, for music-but her father's legacy slowly opens her heart to the possibility of something more.A "heartbreaking and romantic" (Aestas Book Blog) debut, Sweet Thing explores the intensity and complexities of first love and self-discovery.
Where to begin with Sweet Thing? It's been a while since I read a book that brought out all types of emotions from me like this one did. One moment I was cracking up, the next I was swooning over Will and then mad and wanting to throw the book against the wall. I love that about this book! Even though Mia was just, UGH, someone slap this girl pleeeeaasse! She is just so stubborn! LOL
Mia Kelly decides to move to New York after her father dies. He pretty much left her everything including his cafe and apartment right across the street. At the airport on her way to New York, she meets hot and sexy musician named Will. Poor guy was terrified of flying and Mia kept him talking throughout the flight so he wouldn't think and stress out about it. Will was just adorable. They both realized that they loved music. After the flight, they both went their separate ways. One day, they run into each other in the city and since Mia was looking for a roommate, and Will was living in a closet (lol), Will moved in, but under the condition that they would "only be friends", no crossing the line. We all know that's not going to happen lol
There are so many things I love about Sweet Thing, but my favorite was the love that Will and Mia have for music. I could tell they breathed and lived music. There were times while reading where I stopped and jumped on my computer and googled the songs that were mentioned and listened to them while I read. It just made the story come to life.
I am so glad I read Sweet Thing because I instantly feel in love with it. Sweet Little Thing, which is told in Will's POV, we get to find out what happens to Mia and Will after Sweet Thing and believe me, you want to find out. I will be picking that one up real soon and I can not wait to tell you how it is!
I love it when a book can elicit so many feelings in me. I love the roller coaster of emotion. :)
