Author Spotlight + Interview: Fangirls, Sweets & Wendy Higgins ...

Hi Owls! Doris & I (Daisel) had the pleasure of interviewing one of our favorite authors of ALL times, the sweet and awesome Wendy Higgins! Yes, yes, the creator of Kaidan, can you believe it!!? Ok, enough with the fangirling. We wanted to do something special for the release of the last book in the Sweet trilogy, Sweet Reckoning, which hits stores today!!! We love her books and we love her work and can't wait to read more stories by her. If you have not read her books yet, I would advised you go give them a chance. You will not be disappointed. Now, we will leave with the interview. Enjoy, and let us know what you think!

After earning a Creative Writing degree from George Mason University and a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Radford, I taught high school English until becoming a mommy. I've always had a heart for teens, and writing YA stories gives me the opportunity to delve into the ambiguities of those pivotal years before adulthood.
I live in the D.C. area with my husband, daughter, son and puppy Rue.

Hi Wendy, thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions for us. We are ecstatic to be interviewing you, I’d say that we are like crazy fangirls right at this moment. I mean, you are the creator of Kaidan! By the way I would like to order one of him, please and thank you! Ok, ok, back to the interview, I would to ask you a few questions and then I will hand it over to my dear Doris.

Daisel: First, this is a very important question *serious face*. Take your time and think about it.  What is one thing you can’t live without?

Wendy: Love. Wow, that sounds corny, but it’s the truth.

Daisel: How did you feel when you finished writing Sweet Reckoning, knowing that it was the end of The Sweet Trilogy?

Wendy: It was bittersweet. I cried during every single draft and edit of the process because I truly love those characters and I feel like the story is part of me. Before these books, I have always been the type of person who starts things but doesn’t complete them. It was a huge personal achievement to see this story through to the end.

Daisel: How did you come up with the whole idea of The Sweet Trilogy?

Wendy: I don’t know. My brain is just crazy like that.  Seriously, though, I’d just finished reading a paranormal romance, so I had that on my mind, and then I read a satire book with angel and demon narrators. The idea of Anna hit me (half angel/half demon) and I started thinking about the seven deadly sins, and next thing you know this sexy half-demon of Lust came to life in my imagination and it all built from there. Scenes just hit me out of nowhere and I had to fit them together. It was insane!

Daisel: How did you know that the ending that you chose was the right ending? I mean, I was at the edge of my seat and biting my nails. I experienced a lot of emotions, from sadness to happiness to sadness again. It was so good.

Wendy: I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I’m a romantic at heart, so I knew what I wanted to happen (every single “good guy” to be happy at the end, haha), but I also knew the story had to be realistic. To be honest the ending changed a lot from the original version I wrote. So I went back and forth, and even during the very final editing round my editor and I were considering changing a big thing that happened. In the end, I had to stick with the rules of the story world and go with my gut.

Daisel: What project are you working on now? If it is not Top Secret information of course. Haha.

Wendy: Actually, it IS top secret! Teeheehee, but I promise if this project works out like I want it, I will make an announcement late February or early March. *fingers crossed* I will say that besides my current project I have a fantasy on submission with publishers right now, and I have a contemporary story waiting in the wings to be finished.

That is it from me, I will hand it over to Doris now.

Go on Doris, ask away!

Hi Wendy, Doris here, I so wish we could do this interview face to face so I could give you a bear hug and play with Rue and tell you how much I love your books and Kai and . . . Okay enough fangirling.

Doris: What are 3 things that no ones knows about Kai? (like I'd have to kill you if I told you type of thing)
Daisel: That is a really good question Doris. I really, really want to know.

Wendy: 1) He can find something attractive about anyone who lusts for him, 2) this includes males (lust is lust), and 3) pedophilia disgusts him more than anything else in life.

Doris: We all know that Anna loves the Lux series. How do you think a double date with Katy and Daemon would go over?

Wendy: I think Anna and Katy would become fast friends, and Kai and Daemon would have an epic bromance that spells T-R-O-U-B-L-E like no other!

Doris: I mean Kai and Daemon in the same room *fans self*
Daisel: Oh my, it's getting hot in here *fans self*

Wendy: *giggles*

Doris: What's the most epic pick up line Kaidan Rowe has ever used?

Wendy: He’s pretty straight forward. Not really a pick-up line kind of bloke. He’s more likely to walk up to the girl who’s been eyeing him and say, “You’re with me, luv. Let’s go.”

Doris: Do you think I'd have a shot with Kaidan if he had met me first?
Daisel: *chuckles* Oh you are serious? *clears throat* sorry!

Wendy: You’d definitely have a shot at being one of his conquests, but wouldn’t we all?? haha

Doris: I tried folks.

Doris: I haven't read Sweet Reckoning yet but what's something you can tell me?
Daisel: I did! I can tell you a few stuff but then I would be spoiling the book for you and that is not fun. *funny face*

Wendy: Yay for no spoilers!  Hm, what can I say about SR?  Well, we get to see lots more of Jay.  We get to see Kope in his wrathful element. We get to see Kai in his lustful element. We get to see Anna in her substance-abusing element. Oh, heck, we get to see the best and worst of all the Sweet characters. It’s faster paced than the first few books, and it scans the course of a two week period in the summer, picking up right where book 2 (Sweet Peril) left off.
Thanks so much for having me! It was a blast. You girls are wonderful. Hugs all around!

Doris and I want to thank you for taking the time to give us this interview, and hopefully we can meet face to face one day. For now, we must go on and fangirl all over your books and Kaidan!
