Author Spotlight + Interview: Jessica Spotswood

In continuation with our month long Blogoversary, today we have Jessica Spotswood on the blog! Words can't express how excited I was when I saw Jessica's email in my inbox. Let's add to the fact that she actually said yes to an interview!!!!

I don't think I've ever fangirled that hard. If you don't already know already, I'm a wee bit obsessed with The Cahill Witch Chronicles. It's such a fantastic take on witch craft & really it's an all around awesome series. I was very fortunate enough to get my hands on an ARC of Sisters' Fate. All I'm gonna say is words can't express how much I loved it. Perfect ending to such an amazing series. Thank you Jessica, for letting us go on this incredible journey with you. :')

Suzanne Young

I grew up in a tiny one-stoplight town in Pennsylvania, where I could be found swimming, playing clarinet, memorizing lines for the school play, or—most often—with my nose in a book. I've been writing since I was little but studied theatre in college and grad school. Now I live in Washington, DC with my brilliant playwright husband and a cuddly cat named Monkey.

1. What's the first word you think of when you read a book with a cliffhanger? (This has to be my first question because honestly after I finished Star Cursed I had a few choice words. *sheepish* Sorry!)

Noooooooo! Usually I just wail, honestly. (And I'm glad that SC gave you lots of feelings! I'm weirdly delighted when readers tell me they cry or throw the book, because it means you feel invested in the characters!)

2. Without giving to much away, can you describe your favorite scene to write in Born Wicked or Star Cursed?

I think my very favorite scene is still Cate and Finn's first kiss, with the feathers, in the secret room. It was one of the first scenes I wrote in Born Wicked and it changed very little from the first draft. Also, because I'm cruel, I love the very end of Star Cursed. I can't say anymore because spoilers but that also changed very little from the first draft!

3. What’s the most interesting/exciting thing you’ve done in the name of research?

Erp. I don't know that it's very exciting, but I love looking at historical fashion! There's a fantastic Tumblr called OMG That Dress and I spent a LOT of time studying its archives and getting inspired to describe what my characters were wearing.

4. Sisters' Fate isn't too far away, August 14th will be here before we know! Are you nervous about ending your series?

I'm a little nervous, but mostly I'm excited. I can't wait to share what happens with Cate and Maura and Tess and Finn and all their friends (and enemies) with readers! Who dies? Who lives happily ever after? I'm not telling!

5. What can readers expect from the final book in The Cahill Witch Chronicles?

I tried to make each book in the trilogy more - faster-paced, more twists and turns, more betrayals, more heartbreak, more romance! I hope that Sisters' Fate delivers and that readers feel satisfied, like it's the right ending for these characters they've spent so much time with.
