From the acclaimed author of Brooklyn, Burning comes Guy in Real Life, an achingly real and profoundly moving love story in the vein of Rainbow Rowell and John Green, about two Minnesota teens whose lives become intertwined through school, role-playing games, and a chance two-a.m. bike accident. It is Labor Day weekend in Saint Paul, Minnesota, and boy and girl collide on a dark street at two thirty in the morning: Lesh, who wears black, listens to metal, and plays MMOs; Svetlana, who embroiders her skirts, listens to Björk and Berlioz, and dungeon masters her own RPG. They should pick themselves up, continue on their way, and never talk to each other again. But they don't. This is a story of two people who do not belong in each other's lives, who find each other at a time when they desperately need someone who doesn't belong in their lives. A story of those moments when we act like people we aren't in order to figure out who we are. A story of the roles we all play-at school, at home, with our friends, and without our friends-and the one person who might show us what lies underneath it all.

I love any and every witch book. Like I've said before I really think I was a witch in one of my pass lives. I’d seen a few blogger friends talking about it and it instantly caught my attention. I went on Netgalley requested it, read it in a couple of hours and completely loved it. Hexed was a refreshing new book that brought in a couple of things that I hadn't read in awhile. It was nice to see an author come up with new and original ways to incorporate witchcraft. Once again, I so was a witch lol!

Life for Indigo Blackwood is great. She’s head cheerleader, has a football star as a boyfriend and pretty much rules the school with her group of friends. What more could she ask for? All of that takes an unexpected turn when a guy dies right before her eyes and the bible her mother is very possessive of is stolen. Come to find out it isn't any old bible it’s something much more than she could have ever imagined. In comes Bishop; he says if she doesn't get that bible back every witch in the planet will die. That includes her as well. Who knew you could go from being a girl holding pom-poms to being a witch?

Hexed is very heavy on plot driven and I absolutely loved it! From the very first page you are thrown into this amazing story line that you barely have time to come up for air. I didn't want to stop reading. On my lunch break you would see me seating in the very back in the corner trying to get away from everyone just so I could get a few more pages in. I didn't even blink when I realized I was more than half way done with the book. The characters were so well written and I loved that we got to see so much development happen in this book. I especially loved that the secondary characters where so active.

And because it needs to be said: Bishop<3

I will definitely be picking up the sequel to see where this incredible story goes. I can’t wait to see what Krys has in store for us!

  1. I've seen a lot about this book recently and I wasn't sure whether or not I should pick it up, but I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for it now. Great review! :)
