Vanessa: The prologue for Falling Kingdoms immediately drew me in, and, I felt, set the tone of the book. How did you feel about it?

Alejandra: I flew through the prologue. I mean...when the opening sentence is “She’d never killed before tonight”... how can you not fly through it and be sucked in. It was fast paced and full of mystery! One of the best prologues I’ve ever read!

Vanessa: I completely agree! By the end of the Prologue, I was like WTF did I just read, and I just could not put the book down after that! The Prologue for Rebel Spring had exactly the same affect on me! I know that we are both currently reading the third installment in the series, Gathering Darkness, and again, the Prologue completely set the tone for the book.

So...Cleo is keeping a secret at the beginning of Falling Kingdoms, one that apparently is so undesirable, that she doesn't stop Lord Aaron from committing a heinous crime, because she is so scared that he will reveal her secret. But later in the book when we finally find out what this secret is, I wanted to punch Cleo in her face for being stupid. Despite the fact that she is my favorite character in all three books so far!

Alejandra: Ok, so I had an idea about what the secret was even before it was revealed. I also didn’t understand what the big deal was when the secret was finally revealed. But, then again it is a different time, different place so I see why it was a big deal for Cleo and how it could mess up a lot of things for her.

Vanessa: Magnus, hated him from the start. There is something fundamentally wrong with him based on his secret desires. Also hated Lucia. Just can't stand her. Again, my favorite character in the book was Cleo. But here is the thing about character development...it’s such a beautiful thing, that at times it can really suck! In the second book, Rebel Spring, I really started to like Magnus...a lot. I was so frustrated! I didn’t want to like him, at all, but I just couldn’t help myself. However, I still hate Lucia. I don’t believe that is ever going to change. Cleo is still solidly my favorite character. Now Jonas, oh Jonas. I just don’t know how I feel about him. I did not like him in the beginning, then he began to grow on me, then he started irritating me again. I feel like I could do without him as a character. I really don’t think he adds much to the story. He could die and I would not be affected.

Speaking of death...this series has got me twisted with all this “Game of Thrones” tomfoolery! I can’t handle all these people just dying left and right! I never know who is going to bite it next and it’s causing me some serious stress! Not to mention when Morgan Rhodes just starts adding new characters into the story! I am so scared to like a character or get attached to a character for fear she is going to kill them off! NO ONE IS SAFE!

Alejandra: YES! I thought the same about Magnus. I honestly have a love and hate relationship with him. At times I was like “Ok, ok…” I start proceeding with caution and then he would ruin it for me. That happened quite a few times throughout both books. He did start to grow on me a bit more during Rebel Spring. I just feel like he’s hormonal most of the time. HE can’t decide where he stands. It gets annoying at times. I have serious hope for him though!

I can’t stand Lucia either. She doesn’t make me feel anything. With other characters I connected but...I have no connection with her.
So Cleo….in the beginning not really feeling her and her decisions. But I did start liking her a lot more as the story developed. By Rebel Spring I was Team Cleo 100%. I can’t wait to see her character develop more throughout the series!

I have to say my favorite characters in this book are Cleo and Jonas. I have the biggest crush on him. He my boo!!! I agree with you that some of his decisions have not been very smart. However, I am waiting for him to become the bad ass he is meant to be. Girl...if Jonas dies I riot!

Vanessa: LMAO! This is NOT “The Walking Dead”! He is no Daryl! Don’t get it twisted!

Alejandra: Oh I know he is not Daryl Dixon! I would still riot for Jonas or at least throw the book across the room, be mad for a couple of minutes and then continue reading because this is the type of series that I can’t walk away from.

Vanessa: I seriously cannot stop laughing right now! I remember that I finished Rebel Spring before you, and you were telling me the same thing, and I kept thinking to myself “oh shit, wait until she gets to the end of the book!” I am surprised that I didn't receive several text messages about “that scene”.

Alejandra: No lie...I WAS TRIPPING about “that scene” I just sped up my reading!

Can we talk about Lord Aron and how much I hate him. He is on my “most hated characters ever” list. Actually...he is the only character on that list. I have strongly disliked other characters in this book and other books but what I feel for Lord Aron is a lot more than “strongly dislike” What did you think of him?

Vanessa: Eh. He is like Jonas for me. I obviously didn’t like him, but I just did not care about him enough to really hate him. I am okay with either of them dying. And we already know what lies ahead for both of these characters.

Alejandra: Um, NO! He...I just can’t even put him into words. I don’t think I have ever really hated a character before. Anyway….I don’t even want to waste any more of my time on that character. Moving right along...

Vanessa: So here is my take on the series so far. I love it! Absolutely love it! I am so glad that we finally decided to pick this series up to read. I flew through the first and second books in the series. There are so many unexpected twists and turns and I can never seem to figure out what is going to happen next, other than more mayhem! And I love that! Gathering Darkness, the third in the series, is taking me much longer to finish. Most series have that “second book syndrome”, where the second book in the series is just not as good as the first. I feel like, for me, Gathering Darkness, the third in the series, is falling short for me. That is not to say that I don’t like it, because I do, but, for me, it is not as amazing as the first two, Falling Kingdoms and Rebel Spring. However! I must finish it before December 15th so that I will be able to read Frozen Tides when it releases!

Alejandra: I agree! I am absolutely loving this series. It has been a while since I found a series like this. If I am not mistaking we both got this book at the same time over a year ago. It took us a while but boy am I glad that we finally got to it! I devoured Falling Kingdom and Rebel Spring. I started strong with Gathering Darkness but I have not finished it just yet. I know I haven’t finished it because I am waiting for the 4th book Frozen Tides to be released first. I need a back up in case a disaster happens at the end of Gathering Darkness. I am so not emotionally or mentally ready for that. I don’t even want to think about the end of Frozen Tides and how long we will have to wait for the next book in the series.

Vanessa: OMG and I just remembered that we have to read the first book in the spin off series! A Book of Spirit and Thieves! We are so slacking! I mean...the cover for the second book in that series was just released today!

Alejandra: That cover though! It is breathtaking! I have A Book of Spirit and Thieves on my Christmas list!

Vanessa: You know I have it on my Christmas/Birthday List too!

Alejandra: It is a high priority item on there.

Vanessa: All of her covers are gorgeous though! And I am so glad that they have not changed them. They are all the same, so they look beautiful on my shelves!

Alejandra: All this talk is making me want to finish Gathering Darkness...like right now! I better get to it! Frozen Tides releases next week!

Dear readers..if you haven’t already picked this amazing series up...you have to!
