Lucas Donahue is not ashamed of his criminal past, but after a brief stint in prison, he’s ready to go legit and live a normal life. The problem is, no one leaves the gang without permission—even if he is one of the boss’s top men. Plus someone’s placed a hit on him. And then there’s that feisty little bartender who’s going to cause him even more trouble.
Heidi Greene knows to keep her distance from a ladies’ man like Lucas—even if she can’t keep her eyes off him. When he rescues her from an attack in the alley outside her bar, she’s forced to stay by his side for safety. But the longer she spends time with him, the greater her chances are for getting hurt in more ways than one.
So let’s get straight to the point...did you guys take a look at the cover of this book? If you haven’t go ahead and take a good look...I’ll wait. Do I need to say any more??? It is absolutely gorgeous. Aside from the cover grabbing my attention right away, the synopsis sealed the deal for me. I knew right away I was going to give this lovely a try.

Dare to Run is the story of bad boy Lucas Donahue. He has a criminal past and is involved with a gang called Sons of Steel Row. Lucas is a loner. He did time in jail and is now back to work with Steel Row. Little does Lucas know that someone is planning his death. Things begin to change when Heidi Green the owner of a local bar catches Lucas attention. When Heidi finds herself in a troublesome situation involving another gang Lucas comes to her rescue and that’s when everything goes from bad to worse.

So let me talk about bad boy Lucas for a minute. So I know the majority of people who read have a list of “book boyfriends” and when I say majority I am including myself. Here’s the deal though...the crush that I developed for Mr. Donahue has earned him a spot on a brand new list that I now call “book husbands”. He is the first one on this list and I am not sure if there will be anyone else added to it. I spent hours on google trying to find an image that would do this man justice. I am sadly reporting that I found none. But imagine this...tall, green eyes, dark brown hair with a tinge of red, a hint of a Boston accent, muscles, tattoos…

Ok, so what about Heidi? I absolutely loved her character! She is feisty, strong willed, doesn’t put up with anyone, and does not take orders well.

Here is a little tiny piece of Heidi’s thoughts~
There was something about him, something I couldn’t put my finger on, that made me hyperaware of his very being whenever he was in the same room as me. I didn’t know his name, but I knew he has danger written all over him. In permanent marker.” --- Heidi about Lucas

It was so refreshing to see a female lead as strong as the male lead. Oh, and can I say PLOT TWIST? Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book. I do wish that there was a bit more action when it came to the “Sons of Steel Row”. However, I understand that this story was really about Lucas and not the gang that he belongs to. This is the first book that I read by Jen McLaughlin. I will be meeting her in February and I am beyond excited. One thing for sure...Dare to Run will be making my list of Top Reads of 2016!
