Two years ago my life was perfect, until it wasn’t. I scattered my wife’s ashes then walked away from the Marines. I didn’t think I had anything left to lose.

I was wrong.

The blonde showed up on my doorstep beaten and stabbed. I did what I was trained to do—I stitched her up. I didn’t have a clue who she was and I told myself I didn’t care. Until they came looking for her.

I swore I’d take my last breath before I let anyone else hurt her, except I didn’t know she was keeping a deadly secret. Now I had two choices, her life or mine.

Marriage and combat taught me the same thing—I was no one’s hero. And I was about to prove it.
“When you first hook a wave, a punch of adrenaline hits your gut, giving you a high you can’t imagine. Then you settle in for what you hope is the best ride of your life. You fly across the water like you are soaring through the air but better because it’s faster, harder and louder. Then a last curl brings you down, you look over your shoulder and it hits you - you just rode the perfect wave. But, instead of being satisfied, you paddle back out hoping to recreate the magic.” I leaned in and her breath touched my skin like an offshore breeze. “I’m done paddlin’ out because I found my magic. You’re my perfect wave.
~Talon to Nicole “Siren”

Is there anything else I need to say after that quote?

I have been anticipating this book for a while. I first met Talon in the Unchecked Series, where his cocky attitude and smart mouth caught my attention right away. When I heard that Sybil was writing Talon, I became the happiest person on planet Earth. I received a finished copy from Sybil and devoured the book in a matter of days (it would have been done much sooner if I didn’t have to work). I love my job, I really do, but sometimes it gets in the way of my other love...books!

Let me keep this plain and simple. I have read tons of books. The majority of books I’ve read are from a female point of view. Who doesn’t love a female POV? I know I do! It's easy to get rapped up in her world. You get to know other characters through her eyes. That is how I met Talon, through the eyes of the female lead in the Unchecked Series.

However, this book was a completely different kind of read for me. What really made me fall in love with this character was that I got to know him. I got to know Talon through his point of view. I got to live in the world of a male lead, where I encountered anger, pain, and passion. I experienced his thoughts, his emotions, and the reasons for his behavior. I got to read his side of the story. I got lost in the journey of a man fighting a past filled with grief and loneliness. His story showed how love comes knocking at your door at unexpected times, under unexpected circumstances.

I can honestly say that this book is very special to me.

Thank You Sybil for giving me Talon...one of the most remarkable characters I have ever met.
