Whether it’s fast cars or fast women, Stefano Ferraro gets what he wants. When he’s not fodder for the paparazzi, he commands Ferraro family businesses—both legitimate and illegitimate.
While their criminal activity is simply a rumor yet to be proven, no one knows the real truth. The Ferraros are a family of shadow riders capable of manipulating light and dark, an ability Stefano thought ran in his family alone—until now…
With little left to her name, Francesca Cappello has come to Chicago in hopes of a new life. She wasn’t expecting to attract the attention of a man with primal hunger in his eyes, driven to claim her as his to protect and to please. And if he discovers her secret, it could ruin her.

I know...

I know that most of you are going to want to murder me after seeing those two owls for a Christine Feehan book...

I know...but...

I really wanted to love this book. I really did, but it just fell short for me.

I started out loving everything about this book, and I do mean everything.

Gorgeous Alpha Male? Check!

Paranormal Romance? Check!

Fabulous Author? Check!

Interesting plot? Check!

Characters I loved? Ehhh...not so much.

Stefano. Gorgeous. Filthy rich. Shadow Rider. Alpha Male. All things I love and adore, with one huge turn off. He is controlling. Now I am not talking dominant. Dominant is completely different and something that I love. Controlling, not so much.

Exhibit A.
Francesca needs a dress to go out dancing in. Stefano has a stunning dress purchased for her. When he actually sees the dress on her, sure he compliments Francesca, but he follows it up with letting her know that from now on he will need to see all clothes on her, so that he can make sure that she is completely covered to his liking, before he will give his approval for purchases.

Exhibit B, C, and..well, you get the idea...
Francesca is not allowed to go anywhere by herself. She has a job, and two bodyguards are assigned "protect" her while she works. Both guards stand outside her place of employment the entire time she is at work. She must also check in with Stefano regularly, and if not he flips his shit. She also is not allowed to go to the bathroom by herself when in public places. Stefano or guards must escort her to the ladies room and wait outside for her.
Francesca. When I think of her, door mat comes to mind. Where is the independence Francesca? Where is your strength?  Where is your spine? Your backbone? Where?!?

In addition to having a dominant alpha male, books need to have a pretty badass female to balance him out, one who is worthy of him. Who can stand beside him. Francesca is not that female. She was weak. Not a woman I could relate to. Not a woman I wanted to be while reading the book. I just could not wrap my head around why she so willingly went along with whatever Stefano wanted, no matter that she did or did not want the same.
I have a brand new copy of this book to giveaway to one lucky person. U.S. only because shippping can be expensive. Must be 18 or older or have parent permission because I'm going to need your mailing address.
