From Colleen Houck, New York Times bestselling author of The Tiger’s Curse, comes Recreated, the second book in the epic Egyptian-inspired Reawakened series, in which a seventeen-year-old must literally go to hell to save the love of her life.
Lily Young thought traveling across the globe with a reawakened sun prince was a grand adventure. Now she’s about to embark on the journey of a lifetime.
When Amon and Lily part tragically, he transports himself to the Netherworld—what mortals call hell. Tormented by the loss of his one true love, he’d rather suffer in agony during Lily’s mortal years than fulfill his duty to protect humanity.
Heartbroken, Lily seeks refuge on her grandmother’s farm. Yet she can feel Amon’s pain, and she has been having dreams—dreams of Amon continually suffering.
For before he departed, Amon gave Lily something very special, an item that connects them even though they are worlds apart. Now Lily must use this object to free him, and to free their realms from darkness and utter chaos. She will do whatever it takes.
When I read Reawakened last year I absolutely fell head over heels for it. I really enjoyed everything about the book and I was thrilled to find out that there would be a sequel. But, like everyone else I had to wait almost a year to get my hands on it. *sad face*
Thankfully, Owl Ana was able to grab an ARC of Recreated at ALA for me!!! *happy face*
With that being said..I am staying away from spoilers and just giving you my pure thoughts!
So first things first. COVER! It’s is so vibrant and colorful. It puts a smile on my face! I don’t know of a lot of book where you can actually inspect the cover for clues about what is on the inside. But, with this book and the author being Colleen Houck...I knew it would be worth to spend a few minutes just analyzing the cover before reading. PLUS...I love the contrast of color between the first book and this one. The are so different but look so amazing together!
Recreated picks up right where Reawakened left off which. Again, I was hooked from the first page. Things begin to happen rather quickly and the action keeps rolling till the very last page. The book is beautifully written. The entire story is filled with vivid descriptions that make you feel like you are right there next to the characters. The plot of the story is like a roller coaster. You know...the one that has dashing speed with like a thousand twist and turns while your feet/legs are hanging down and you scream at the top of you lungs for the entire ride?!? Yes...that’s the plot!
I enjoyed the character development of Lily which is the female lead in the books. I really liked Lily in Reawakened but I feel like my respect her a lot more after reading Recreates. She grew immensely throughout her journey. I LOVED getting to meet so many other Egyptian Gods! Anubis and Horus made me swoon big time. I am still team Amon though! *winky face*
So you know that feeling you get when you finish a book? The one when you take a deep breath, close the book, hold it in both hands to look at the cover one more time before putting it down for the last time? And sometimes you feel joyous and accomplished but then there are times when you are devastated? This was one of those books where I felt so many emotions at the same time that I didn’t know what to do with myself. So I did what any other reader would do...I stalked Colleen Houck to find out if there was a 3rd book coming out and when! And boy was I happy with the result that my stalking skills provided! *happy/evil face*
The Number Three
In my Egyptian series, the number three is used over and over. Here are a few examples of the threes you’ll find in the Reawakened series.
3 Princes-Asten, Ahmose, & Amon
3 Villains-Sebak, The Devourer, and Seth
3 Dangers on the Cosmic River-Serin (evil mermaids), Menfishers (underwater grubs that trap victims in nets), & Apep (the cosmic snake)
3 Celestial Realms-Heliopolis (the home of the gods), the Afterlife (place of judgment), the Netherworld (place of punishment)
3 Groups that serve the Devourer-Reapers (harvest souls for her to devour), Jackals (hellhounds that hunt for runaways and bring them back), an albino minotaur (serves as a bodyguard/henchman)
3 Books in the series-There are more but I don’t want to give away too much, just look for things by threes when reading the series.
