In Charlemont, Kentucky, the Bradford family is the crème de la crème of high society—just like their exclusive brand of bourbon. And their complicated lives and vast estate are run by a discrete staff who inevitably become embroiled in their affairs. This is especially true now, when the apparent suicide of the family patriarch is starting to look more and more like murder…
No one is above suspicion—especially the eldest Bradford son, Edward. The bad blood between him and his father is known far and wide, and he is aware that he could be named a suspect. As the investigation into the death intensifies, he keeps himself busy at the bottom of a bottle—as well as with his former horse trainer’s daughter. Meanwhile, the family’s financial future lies in the perfectly manicured hands of a business rival, a woman who wants Edward all to herself.
Everything has consequences; everybody has secrets. And few can be trusted. Then, at the very brink of the family’s demise, someone thought lost to them forever returns to the fold. Maxwell Bradford has come home. But is he a savior...or the worst of all the sinners?

GEESH..... The story never ends with the Bourbon King series. In book #1 of the series, we were left to deal with suicide, murder, affair, corruption, theft and even an arranged marriage!! Book #2 of the series The Angels' Share is just as complicated and so soap opera worthy! I personally compare this series to Tyler Perry's (The Haves and the Have Nots) because there is never a dull moment with these characters. As we found out in book #1 the Baldwin's are not doing very well due to their horrible dad William Baldwin. The struggles continue and we are starting to see how each character is being developed.

After finding out that Lane, Max, Gin, and Edward's father William Baldwin passed away and left the family in financial ruins; Lane is left with the responsibility of trying to figure out where the money went. I personally believed that this book would be more about Edward and Sutton since the first book dealt with Lane and Lizzie, but I was wrong! Lane and Lizzie continue to be the main focus of the series and together they are desperately trying to deal with the financial woes and the death of William. While also trying to maintain the family business running and operational. I loved the fact that all of the characters including Edward, Sutton, Gin, Mack, and Samuel have a chance to reveal their POV's and just like the first book they all have a major role in the story.

I also loved how Lane and Lizzie united and tried their best to keep everything running smoothly. I love this couple and the way they deal with life. Lane takes the lead in trying to salvage the Bradford Bourbon business and Lizzie steps to the plate in organizing the household and day to day affairs. Their love story is just heart warming and I fall in love with them with every page of this series. As we continue the series the characters are faced with not really knowing if William committed suicide or if another motive played into his death. William's death leaves so many unanswered questions and problems and book #2 reveals several situations that continue to impact this family greatly.

I was blown away by the troubles between Edward, Sutton, and Shelby. I expected a love triangle between these beautiful characters and I wasn't too sure how I would feel about it since I enjoy love triangles that pop up unexpectedly. You will have to read this book to find out more details but I can tell you that you will probably be a little disappointed with the cliff hangers that will keep you guessing and thinking about the possibilities!! The book also includes Gin who is continuing her quest to marry the awful and devious Richard Pford. I think it's a little ridiculous that Gin is interested in this man just for his money since she was given so much already. But sometimes education, connections, and money may not be enough for people with greed. I sort of hated Gin in the first book, but I am slowly realizing that maybe she will change as the series continues. As for Gin and Samuel T. is concerned, we really do not get to know to much about them but I have a strong inclination that this is not the end of Samuel T...

Therefore, if you are interested in soap opera drama filled characters that will keep your attention and show you life lessons this is the book to pick up. J.R. Ward did a phenomenal job with the writing and character development for this series. I loved how if you read the first book a while ago, the beginning of book #2 puts everything into perspective and allows the reader to remember with details mostly everything about book #1. This is a very helpful strategy that helped me tremendously. So as you can see, I am hooked and I look forward to reading about these characters and how the entire story line develops in the next book in the series!!!
