1. What inspired this new novel?
The Fever Code is a book that’s been on my mind for years, since before The Maze Runner was even released. I just think the nature of the story lends itself well to prequels because of the wiped memories, all the intrigue surrounding WICKED and where they came from, the maze itself, etc. This new book will be a treat for my fans, I sincerely believe that. All of the characters that we’ve grown to love and miss terribly (at least I do!) are back and we get to see so much of their backstory. Also, even though it’s a prequel and you may think you know what happens and how it ends, I promise you’ll be very surprised.
2. How excited are you for the book to be released into the world?
On a scale of 1 to 10, I’m a 10 for sure! I’m really proud of the book and we worked so hard on it. I can’t wait to see peoples’ reactions.
3. How do you feel about your characters and about being a writer?
Being a writer can be a very strange thing. This question, a very good one, is a perfect example. Characters that I created come back and actually inspire me to write more about them. I think you have to be a little crazy in the head to be a true author. As for this series, I think Minho and Thomas are my two favorites. Thomas is a version of me that’s much braver, and Minho is just way cooler than I could ever hope to be.
4. What can fans expect from this new book?
Surprises. Suspense. Fear. Character interactions we’ve always wondered about. Bittersweetness.
5. Any books you're currently reading and enjoying?
Right now I’m reading Here I Am by Jonathan Safran Foer, about halfway through it. So far, so good!
