The end of an Empire, The rise of a Queen. Emory Fae enjoys leading a quiet, normal life. That is until two mysterious, and handsome soldiers show up at her apartment, and the life she knew is instantly whisked away. Memphis Carter and Brokk Foster come from the magical and war ridden world of Kiero, and upon Emory's arrival she will discover she is the long lost heir to the Royal Line and is thrown into the Black Dawn Rebellion with a dynamic role to ignite the rebels and reclaim her throne. With both men being darkly woven in her past Emory uncovers hidden secrets, a power held long dormant, and will soon realize there are worse things than supernatural humans, love, loss, betrayal, and a Mad King. Some things are better left in the shadows.

I just have to say that this cover is what sold me on the book. I am that person who is always saying to never judge a book by its cover and here I am selling myself to this book before even reading it. I do think covers are important because that is what mostly, in my opinion, draws a reader into the books pages and the story inside.

The story follow Emory Fae who thinks she has a normal life but when someone from her dreams shows up and becomes a reality, her life is turned upside down. She discovers world she was hidden from and realizes that only she has the power of saving it.

The overall story was okay with me but the one thing that kind of fell through was that I thought everything felt rushed and then at the end I wanted more. I do not know if this is just a ploy to get me to continue but it worked. I want to know more about Emory and her past. I would love to get some more information on her parents. And of course the awkward romance that follows suit in every chapter.

Mallory McCartney writes a compelling story that will get you, the reader, hooked and only want more. In a world full of adventure, action, magic, and emotion packed scenes Black Dawn is more than a book that has an drop dead cover. It is a story that gives the reader a feeling of fighting for what you truly believe in, even though the best decisions are sometimes the hardest.

Mallory McCartney currently lives in London, Ontario with her husband and their two dachshunds Link and Lola. Black Dawn is her debut novel, the first in a series. When she isn’t working on her next novel or reading, she can be found dog grooming, book shopping and hiking. Other favorite pastimes involve reorganizing perpetually overflowing bookshelves and seeking out new coffee and dessert shops.
