Top Ten Tuesday: Books I was Hesitant to Read but Am Really Glad I Did

Top Ten Tuesdays (TTT) is a weekly event now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's TTT is: Books I Disliked/Hated but am Really Glad I Read. Which I changed up into Books I was Hesitant to Read but am Really Glad I Did.

I was having such a hard time thinking about books I disliked/hated but am glad I read. But I did start to see books that I was hesitant or intimidated to read but am really glad that I read them anyway.

Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
I was so intimidated to read this series because of the size of the books - over 1,000 pages is a lot to me! But I read the first two books in the series and I'm so glad I did. I ended up really loving the books and I can't wait to continue on in the series so I can watch the show.

A Court of Mist & Fury by Sarah J. Maas
I was so hesitant to go into this thinking that I would feel burned again, like I did with another series by Maas. BUT I read this anyway and I ended up loving it.

Alanna: The First Adventure by Tamora Pierce
I was hesitant about this one because of the hype. This series is beloved by so many and a part of so many childhoods that I was really nervous I would be the odd one out. However, I loved this book and the whole series.

The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han
I don't know why I was hesitant about this series. I think I started it and thought I wouldn't end up liking it, but I was so wrong. I was obsessively trying to finish this series as fast as I could because I wanted to know what happened next.

Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews
I feel like I wasn't thinking straight because I didn't think I would like the urban fantasy genre. I was also feeling a bit shallow, because the covers made me a bit hesitant as well. When I gave Kate Daniels a try, though, I ended up loving this series. I'm a few books in but have enjoyed every book I've read so far.

The Girl in 6E by A.R. Torre
I heard some interesting things about this book before picking it up - and I was thinking I wouldn't like it. It really surprised me! I liked the suspense story line as well as surprising side plots. One of the books that really surprised me, in the best way!

Wonder by R.J. Palacio
I was hesitant to read this because I knew it would make me cry. I read this shortly after having a little boy and I couldn't help but think if my son was just like Auggie. Yes, I did cry. and yes, I'm so happy I read this book.

Just One Day by Gayle Forman
When I first read Gayle Forman, I really didn't like the book so I was so hesitant to read another one by her. (I ended up re-reading that book and really liking it the second time). I was so hesitant to try this book out but it ended being an all time favorite.

Can You Keep a Secret by Sophie Kinsella
I totally didn't think I would like this because I was being shallow and the cover wasn't something I thought I would like. I hadn't delved into chick lit either and thought that I wouldn't like it. Boy, was I wrong! I really loved it.

A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay
Stephen King said that this book "Scared the living hell out of me, and I'm pretty hard to scare." That made me hesitant to read this because I thought I would get scared. I didn't end up loving it or really enjoying it a ton, but I'm glad I read it anyway.
