WELCOME TO THE NEAR FUTURE, where good and honest 8/18 citizens can enjoy watching the executions of society’s most infamous convicted felons, streaming live on The Postman app from the suburbanized prison island Alcatraz 2.0.

When eighteen-year-old Dee Guerrera wakes up in a haze, lying on the ground of a dimly lit warehouse, she realizes she’s about to be the next victim of the app. Knowing hardened criminals are getting a taste of their own medicine in this place is one thing, but Dee refuses to roll over and die for a heinous crime she didn’t commit. Can Dee and her newly formed posse, the Death Row Breakfast Club, prove she’s innocent before she ends up wrongfully murdered for the world to see? Or will The Postman’s cast of executioners kill them off one by one?

What a ride this book took me on! It was a non-stop acceleration from the beginning, and I was along for the ride! This book is unlike anything else, so let's talk about why.

In this book we follow Dee who has been put into caught into a crazy situation. There is a program that people follow through an app that centers around murder. Murderers are brought onto the island to face a murderous situation themselves. This is all broadcasted through an app where the general public tunes in and watches murders happen, as well as people living on the island and trying to avoid getting murdered. The book presents this as something that could really happen and it adds a really eerie affect. The way everything is set up, it really does seem like this could happen in real life. It adds another dimension to the story.

The story may seem complicated, but it isn't. I felt that everything was laid out well and there was no confusion along the way. The plot was so well-thought out and I was surprised about how it all was laid out. I kept trying to guess what was going to happen next and most of it came a surprise to me. This was one of my favorite parts, this unpredictability and looking forward to finding out what happens next.

I liked seeing the different cast of characters. There were quite a few different people. It becomes a sort of breakfast club, which it is referred to in the book. I loved all the pop culture references throughout the book. It's always fun to see them come through. In this case, it also came through in situations of murder.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. It was fast-paced, totally unique, and a story that really puts you in the middle of a suspenseful and murderous story. If you are looking for something unique, something that you can't put down and/or something that is unlike anything you have ever read, pick this book up!

Happy Reading from me to you!

  1. I can't wait to read this! It does sound really different from a lot of what's out there, and that premise is insane- in a good way. :)
