I wonder if for the rest of my life, I’ll be haunted by beautiful days.On one cloudless, radiant summer afternoon, Lake Devereaux lost everything. The car crash claimed the lives of her best friend and boyfriend, the people who had become her family after her own fell apart. But she doesn’t have to lose them both. The development of resurrection technology has changed the world. Under the new laws regulating the process, each person gets one resurrection to be used or forfeited on their eighteenth birthday. Mere weeks away from turning eighteen, Lake faces an impossible choice.Envisioning life without one of the people she loves most is shattering enough, but Lake carries an additional burden: years ago, under family pressure, Lake secretly—and illegally—promised her resurrection to someone who isn’t even dead yet.The search for answers about her future draws Lake more deeply into the secrets of her past until she begins to question everything about those closest to her. Betrayals and hurts both new and old threaten to eclipse the memories she once cherished. Then Lake meets a boy unlike anyone she’s encountered before, who unflinchingly embraces the darkest parts of her life . . . and who believes that all resurrections are wrong.Which path is the right one? And how can Lake start to heal when she can't move on?

There are moments where you walk up to your shelf, select a book and say that this is going to be a good book. I was right. I am in the middle of going through the books on my shelf and I kept going back to look at this book. I finally took the chance, grabbed it off the shelf, sat in my reading chair and let the story take me along.

Lake Devereaux's life takes a turn for the worse when a car crash claims the lives of her best friend and boyfriend. Mere days from turning eighteen and having the choice resurrecting someone her decision now has become even harder with choosing who to bring back. However, what makes this even harder is that she had already promised her wish to someone else.

Just thinking about the premise of the book and thinking long and hard on who I would bring back from the dead is decision I could never make. There have been so many people that have had a strong influence in my life and that have helped me grow to be the person I am today that I would probably not wish to have that option. So looking at the decision that Lake may have to made me sit on the edge of my seat as the days went by and her birthday and the day of her decision came closer.

I really enjoyed this book. I was not exactly sure what I was going into but the entire concept and idea had me hooked from the beginning. There were a couple of twists in the story that one I was anticipating and another caught me off guard.

The relationship with Lake and Ringo somewhat reminded me a little bit of The Fault in Our Stars. It was not very prominent in the story, which I liked but there were these moments where you smiled a little and saw how the two were slowing growing on each other. The two made me happy.

Overall I wa throughly impressed with the story. It was a fast and enjoyable read. Chandler Baker caught my attention and had my heart racing till the end. If you are looking for a contemporary read with a slight twist of magical realism, than check this book out.

Happy Reading!
