Top Ten Tuesday: Childhood Favorites

Top Ten Tuesdays (TTT) is a weekly event now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's TTT is: Childhood Favorites. I have always loved books, but I haven't always been a reader. I was a bit intimidated by chapter books when I was younger so I didn't read much once I was in middle school. I always read something, just not as much. Here are some of my favorite picture books, and even a chapter book series, that I enjoyed during my childhood.

I taught myself to read with this book and its the first book I read all on my own. This book will always be a special one to me.

In this book there are stories for each day of the year, labeled by a date. My mom would occasionally read us stories from here. It was always a special thing to find the story that was for your birthday.

These are all books that I wanted to read over and over again. (Chicken Licken isn't the version I have, I couldn't find my version online, but the story is usually the same)

This was another book I wanted to read over and over again. I love cats and I loved that this cat had the same name as me.

One of my fondest memories of summer was when my sister and I would bike across town to the library and look at all the books they had on the Sunday paper comic strips that we loved. We would check out a stack of comic strip books and come back not long later to check out another stack. The Family Circus and Peanuts are two I remember us checking out.

My sister loved The Babysitters Club a little more than I did, but I remember reading some of the series and really enjoying them.

  2. I love Green Eggs and Ham! I didn't really read it until I had my own kids, but it's a favorite.

  3. Yay for the Stinky Cheese Man! I can't remember where my copy of this went...along with my The True Story of The 3 Little Pigs. I think my sister might possibly have them from when she was teaching the younger grades.

    Here's my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

  4. I thought the Stinky Cheese Man was SO hilarious. Our teacher read it aloud in class and I think it was everyone's favorite book for a year or two afterward. To my great disappointment, I didn't find it funny when reread as an adult, but I hope future generations of kids continue to love it.
